The Thought ‘I Am’ and the Actual ‘I Am’

Question: Is there a difference between the sense of being present (which is there when there is a moment of no thought) and the feeling of ‘I am’?

John: The real presence is there always, whether thought is present or not. Your existence does not increase or decrease if thought is present or absent. Do not associate your existence with a quiet mind! Many people make this mistake. I also did at one point. Just remember that the actual ‘I am’ is that undeniable existence and awareness that is right with you now. The thought ‘I am’ is just a thought. You exist whether you think that idea or not. What is it that the thought or word ‘I am’ points to? It is the fact of your own being. You are that.

Q: The sense of being present seems to be there within the body and also without. Does this make sense? However, there is no more mental agitation and no more seeking.

John: When you realize that what we are seeking is the reality of our own natural being and awareness, the seeking falls away, along with the agitation and suffering. All of that was due to the belief that reality was distant and far way. So it was based on a misconception.

Q: It is understood that if it cannot be seen now, then it cannot be sought and found.

John: Yes, what we are seeking is always present. Anything that is not present or can disappear cannot be your true being.

Your own being is the reality. It is not the body, the senses or the mind. These things appear in awareness, which is ever with you. You are that awareness.
